RA program

RA Program

The RA program is designed to upgrade
the student dormitory
from a "place to live"
to a "place of diverse experiences".

What is an RA ?

RAs (Resident Assistants) are a reassuring presence
for dormitory students and are dormitory leaders who support dormitory life.
Their role is to support the daily lives of dormitory students and promote interaction among them in order to make their student life more enjoyable and fulfilling.

  • RA is the resident leaders who supports residents lives.

  • The RA system started in 2015.
There are 209 RAs all over Japan.

  • Being RA nurtures leadership and planning skills, and promotes self-growth through experience.

Four features of participating RA program

  • Nurturing leadership

The backgrounds of the RAs participating in the RA program vary widely. However, they are all united by a spirit of altruism, asking themselves, "What can I do for the dormitory students?"
With this spirit at their core, RAs engage in activities that encourage self-reflection and help students discover their true selves. This experience boosts their confidence, resulting in students with diverse personalities cooperating, inspiring, and challenging each other to realize "shared leadership."

  • RAs improve and revitalize the residents’ dormitory lives

The RA plays an important role in continuously improving the quality of life in the dormitory.
By listening to the dorm residents and making improvements such as maintaining comfortable laundry rooms and bathrooms, minor daily problems are prevented before they occur.
Additionally, RAs contribute to creating a warm, dormitory-specific atmosphere by making dormitory resident introduction posters and seasonal decorations.

  • RAs can learn from many RA activities

RAs engage in repeated discussions and information sharing with their dormitory team members and with RAs nationwide. Within this "RA network," they broaden their horizons by trying and failing repeatedly while being exposed to new values and insights from others.
They also share each dormitory's unique initiatives, success stories, and problem-solving methods, applying them to improve their own dormitories and achieve continuous growth.

  • RAs facilitate a warm atmosphere in the residents’ community.

RA initiatives promote mutual understanding with international students and deepen relationships among dormitory residents, fostering a warm atmosphere of diversity within the dormitory.
A high level of psychological safety within the dormitory allows residents to freely express themselves and actively participate in school life and extracurricular activities. The bonds formed with dormitory friends through such daily interactions become treasures that last a lifetime.

RA Initiatives

RAs plan seasonal events and other activities to create opportunities for communication among dormitory residents.

We also provide support for daily life issues, promote awareness of rules,
and sometimes act as a liaison between the house master and dormitory residents, fulfilling a variety of roles.

Here are some of the activities we offer to enhance the appeal of dormitory life.

  • Welcome party for new students
  • Sports Festival

RA support team: “RA Promotion Team”

The RA Promotion Team works closely with RAs to support their activities and help them achieve their vision of the ideal dormitory.
When RAs face challenges or difficulties, we share examples of successful practices and solutions from other dormitories to help them overcome obstacles.
As RA mentors, our focus is on providing support rather than advice. We strive to help RAs achieve their goals and resolve their concerns.
